Push for cleaner air

Smart data and IT services firm Konica Minolta is encouraging companies in the Basildon area to improve air quality, after being listed as a positive environmental example.

The company was chosen in late January as one of the 2019 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World by Canada-based media and investment advisory firm Corporate Knights.

Konica Minolta’s operational centre is found on Miles Gray Road in Basildon, and initiatives to improve air quality and reduce pollution include timing deliveries to avoid rush hour.

The firm also uses double decker vehicles to reduce the amount used in and around the Basildon area. So far 5% of the firm’s fleet vehicles are hybrid, and all are Euro 6 compliant meaning they have less exhaust emissions.

There has also been a CO2 limit placed on the approved company car list, so drivers can only select vehicles under the threshold, while employees who drive for work have been asked to take eco-driving training.

The Basildon office also has electrical charging points, and has created a new bike shed to encourage employees to consider more environmentally-friendly methods of travel.
