Craylands scheme progresses
The next phase of the Craylands and Fryerns estate regeneration scheme is moving forward, with work beginning on a housing scheme on the former Fryerns school site, known as Beechwood Village.
The joint venture (JV) project is being delivered by Basildon Council, developer Swan Housing and Homes England, with external wall insulation installed at 135 council homes that will be retained in the development.
Additionally, thanks to a £2.2 million grant from Essex County Council, Basildon Council has made improvements to footpaths and roads on the remaining areas of the estate.
A wild meadow was planted in Jordan Way to encourage wildlife to make new habitats, while a programme of tree planting in Hereford Walk replaced low-quality trees.
The overall regeneration scheme will see the demolition of 521 properties, which will be replaced with up to 994 new homes.
